Dylan Evans joined Walters in September 2024 as an Apprentice Engineer. Dylan is currently based at the Celtic Lakes site in South Wales. The scheme involves many different aspects of Civil Engineering including Earthworks, Drainage, Utility works and an elements of Road construction.
Prior to joining Walters Dylan had completed his A-Levels and had some experience of the construction and trade industries, which Dylan says has helped him “gain a basic knowledge of Health and Safety within construction.”
Dylan had the following to say about his future with Walters: “I am looking forward to working alongside experienced Engineers across the company to gain valuable experience and learn new skills, which will help me progress to the highest standard possible. I am also looking forward to working on a variety of different projects within Walters to broaden my knowledge.”
At the Celtic Lakes Site, Dylan has been working with the site team to learn new skills and gain on-site knowledge of a variety of engineers’ responsibilities: “I have been taught how to set out and monitor the construction activities using a total station, GPS kit, rotating laser, pipe laser, dumpy level and also learnt how to set out profile boards.
Recently, I have been working alongside the Site Engineer monitoring the Quality of the Earthworks compaction by witnessing the CBR and Hand Shear Vane tests, recording the results and reporting back to site management.”
It is great to see apprentice Engineers like Dylan who are eager to learn and develop within Walters. Dylan has said that in 5 years’ time he would like to be a “qualified and competent Site Engineer.” We are excited to see how he gets on and progresses following his ‘flying start’ with the team!
