Alice is currently based at Whatley Quarry and is the youngest woman to qualify to operate a grader in the UK!
Alice’s father is a plant operator and encouraged her to take the first step into construction. She describes her first day in the job as “..overwhelming but fun”. She started out driving the water bowser on dust suppression duties around the site. She took to this like a duck to water, and with encouragement and mentoring, she moved on learn how to drive the grader and the rigid 100t Caterpillar 777 dump truck.

Due to the shift patterns in the quarry, Alice typically starts work at 06.30hrs and finishes at 14.30hrs. She enjoys the hours as she has the rest of the afternoon for hobbies and to see family and friends!
Alice says that her best day on the job was the day she qualified to operate the 777, describing it as “..daunting but so rewarding”. She had always wanted to drive the 777 and it quickly became her favourite item of plant to drive!
Alice says that often when she meets new people and tells them what she does they don’t believe her at first. “I love my job and would recommend it to anyone looking for something a bit different!”
Well done Alice!
