- Principal contractor for landmark footbridge
- Successful complex night-time bridge lift
- Quayside public-realm improvements
- Strong partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council
- Key contribution to town-centre regeneration
Project Outline:
As the principal contractor, Walters played a central role in delivering the Western Cleddau Footbridge and Western Quayside project. The scheme sought to revitalise Haverfordwest town centre by replacing the outdated pedestrian crossing with a distinctive new structure that strengthens connectivity between Riverside, the Western Quayside, and the historic core of the town.
In addition to the bridge, the project encompassed extensive public-realm enhancements and improvements to surrounding infrastructure, all aimed at creating a more attractive, accessible, and commercially vibrant town-centre environment.
Project Delivery:
Walters led the construction and installation of the new footbridge, working closely with the client, Pembrokeshire County Council, and design partners to ensure technical accuracy and seamless delivery. One of the most complex elements of the scheme was the night-time installation of the bridge, a highly coordinated operation involving specialist lifting teams and precision engineering to place the structure safely across the Western Cleddau.
Alongside the bridge works, our teams delivered upgrades to quayside pathways, riverfront public spaces, and associated access routes, ensuring each component tied coherently into the wider regeneration strategy.
Added Value & Client Partnerships:
Walters established Social Value Partnership’s with the local high school – Haverfordwest High VC School – sponsoring their rugby tour to South Africa. We also employed a two-week placement to join the team full time, working with us alongside his studies.
By working in partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council, we helped shape solutions that enhanced local connectivity, improved public spaces, and created a catalyst for future commercial and community activity on the quayside.
