PROJECT OUTLINE
Due to the high flow of water through the existing colliery tip drainage channels, heavy scouring had occurred to the concrete channel sections, eroding the concrete and exposing the reinforcement below. Some sections had also experienced severe erosion to the side walls.
Walters were appointed by CCBC to carry out the concrete repair works to a 340m section of drainage channel to replace the existing side wall with a new wall cast inside the existing channel prior to lining. The design solution required the lining of over 1km of existing ditches with Concrete Canvas to a bespoke design laying an 8mm liner longitudinally to the channel invert, followed by a 5mm liner transversely across the channel. All liners required positioning, fixing and hydrating to form the new concrete channel within the existing section.
PROJECT DELIVERY
The Project was completed in 6 weeks by significantly exceeding the manufacturers productivity expectations avoiding lost time due to adverse weather conditions. Walters and the project team aided with a re-design when the fixing detail specified failed, offering and installing an alternative solution and avoiding disruption to the site operations.
Due to the hilltop location of the site, access to, and around the site was difficult making the delivery of materials extremely challenging. A section of the works required lining was on a steep incline with very limited access through dense vegetation.
