PROJECT OUTLINE
The project required the re-profiling of 61 hectares of the former Felindre Tinplate works. Complete with a newly formed, western perimeter channel diversion (accommodating streams dissecting the proposed footprint). This would provide a fully serviced, 12 plot, flagship business park, to be undertaken as a joint venture between the City and County of Swansea and the Welsh Government.
The development would require the dual phase construction of a new DVLA and Park and Ride car park for these incumbent organisations, together with the construction of a 7.3m wide spine road with 3m wide cycle route and red asphalt footpaths, encompassing an inner core landscape area.
PROJECT DELIVERY
Walters were appointed to undertake this challenging scheme which involved: dealing with diversified, ecological and archaeological issues, the existing DVLA and Park and Ride facility and liaison and co-ordination between all Statutory Undertakers with new services provisions for the Development ” all within a 40 week programme.
The 40 week programme included significant earthworks, all storm and foul drainage (in accordance with the section 104 Agreement), road and specialist surfacing, high quality footpaths and finishings, street lighting and a major peripheral lined watercourse diversion (to take existing watercourses around the development). Furthermore it was key that the works were carried out in sympathy with a number of local ecological constraints, including the protection of local fisheries.
