Members of our south west team recently spent the day assisting Ride Bristol with their mission of supporting and growing the incredible off-road bike trail network in Bristol. A registered charity and volunteer community supported by a generous network of organisations and individuals, Ride Bristol are dedicated to maintaining and improving Bristol’s public bike trails and to growing a vibrant, respectful and diverse community of trail users.
The Walters team assisted other volunteers with rebuilding sections of Ashton Court’s ‘Nova’ bike trail, a 4-mile loop with plenty of jumps, drops, berms, rollers and whoops! Defective areas were removed and then reinstated, shaped and compacted back to their former glory. Drainage was maintained and the trail surface was regulated to improve the riding surface. The day was a huge success, with many hands making light work of the job!
As well as muscle, Walters also supplied hand tools, compaction equipment and vehicles to transport materials and volunteers on the day. The unanimous verdict was that a great day was had by all helping Ride Bristol improve and maintain the trails that so many Bristolians rely on for their exercise and mental health!
The day was organised by Ride Bristol Trustee Joe Sullivan, who also happens to be a Site Agent in our south west team! "The day was a great success for both Walters, Ride Bristol and BT Openreach, with the Bristol off road trails being much improved. Hopefully, this can be the first of many ‘dig-days’ to come with Ride Bristol."
