- Widening and resurfacing the main access off Coryton roundabout and main access road to the Velindre site
- Reconfiguration of and raising the level of Asda car park and entrance
- Provision of King Post and concrete retaining walls
- Provision of new lighting throughout car park
- Delivery of new carwash facilities
Project Outline:
Following construction of a new access road and bridge (also by Walters) to the New Velindre Cancer Care Centre, the car park at the adjacent Asda store required significant alteration and improvement to aid traffic flow in to and out of the new hospital site.
Walters were appointed by Asda to undertake this complex and high profile scheme whilst ensuring that disruption to customers was minimised at all times.
Project Delivery:
Walters worked collaboratively with the stakeholders to manage the scheme and optimise the ongoing operation of the Asda car park throughout the duration of the project. To maximise the spaces available for customers to use and to reduce disruption, the project was split into 6 phases.
Walters widened the exit slip road off Coryton roundabout to improve traffic flow. Car park levels were raised to differentiate parking areas from carriageway areas.
Walters constructed five concrete retaining walls and one ‘King Post’ retaining wall to retain and support car parking areas either side of the new road.
Walters also provided a variety of upgrade works including new lighting, new carwash facilities and an ATM unit.
Added Value & Client Partnerships:
Walters supported the local Tongwynlais Primary School through the Bumbles of Honeywood Programme run by 2B Enterprising. Walters sponsored a session at the Primary School where the children participated in an interactive session to develop their problem solving and team-building skills. The children also learned about the construction industry and the NVCC / Asda Car Park project and even met the Walters project team!
