Project Outline:
BAE Systems required the construction of a new two-way access and security barrier into the BAE Systems Filton 20 site, in the location of the existing single lane visitor entrance. Walters were awarded the contract by BAE Systems in September 2022.
Project Delivery:
Works included excavation of existing entrance and demolition of the brick visitor security hut to formation level – Walters installed compacted subbase material and completed the laying of geotextile material. Works also included the installation of a new drainage network, including tie-ins to existing chambers and the installation of power and comms ducting.
Amendments were also required to the circulatory route around the Filton 20 site, which included creation of a new access into Car Park B, creation of additional car parking spaces, and changes to the layout and access for the GKN car park, as well as the installation of combined kerb drains and concrete kerbs.
Added Value & Client Partnerships:
Walters applied value engineering through early engagement with the client and key project personnel, building and maintaining a positive relationship.
Works were sequenced to identify and manage buried services early in the programme, resulting in time savings and eliminating the requirement for temporary power supplies.
Walters supervised the traffic management and controlled plant movements around the site to minimise the impact on the existing complex and BAE employees throughout the course of the works.
Walters completed the project on time and on budget with excellent client feedback.
