PROJECT OUTLINE

Willmott Dixon were contracted by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council to refurbish and extend the existing Gwent Records Office, a historical and landmark building fronting “The Works” regeneration project.

A specialist Sub Contractor was required to carry out the Section 278 Highway Works and live connections to DCWW existing trunk sewers.

PROJECT DELIVERY

Walters were employed by Willmott Dixon to carry out these works as they are specialist contractors licensed to connect to existing DCWW live trunk sewers and are one of the key contractors appointed to the BGCBC Works Framework. There was heightened interest from the Client, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, due to the importance of the building on which this scheme fronted. The successful completion of the Streetscape scheme marked a key point in the whole of the regeneration project.

Due to its historical, industrial past, the site was subject to numerous changes in scope as uncharted subterranean features presented themselves to the Walters Construction team, resulting in major adjustments to design and specification to suit the changing requirements.

Walters worked collaboratively with the Willmott Dixon Construction Team and the local authority to achieve acceptable solutions on design and to help overcome budgetary restrictions utilising their change management systems and QA procedures.

All deep drainage, service installations/diversions, pavement preparation and all other civil engineering aspects (apart from bituminous surfacing), were carried out by Walters directly employed workforce.
