This is the tab body content. It is typically best to keep this area short and to the point so it isn't too overwhelming.
AT-A-GLANCE:
  • 500M OF LEACHATE DRAINAGE (3M DEEP)
  • 2000M3 UPVC LEACHATE CONTAINMENT TANK
  • 800M STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM
  • PILED REINFORCED CONCRETE TIDAL STORM OUTFALL TO THE RIVER USK ESTUARY

PROJECT OUTLINE

The Maesglas lining and drainage project was awarded by Newport City Council as a means of improving leachate control at its Docks Way, Newport landfill site. The improvements were monitored and had to meet specific standards outlined by (and agreed with) the Environment Agency.

As leachate can contain a number of environmentally hazardous chemicals, it was important that it was contained, prevented from contaminating surrounding areas and the local water table.

PROJECT DELIVERY

Walters constructed a 500m leachate drainage up to 3m deep, in addition to a 2000m3 uPVC leachate containment tank. A separate 800m storm drainage system, outfalling into the River Usk estuary was constructed, in addition to a piled, reinforced concrete, tidal storm outfall.

Walters was also responsible for a clay leachate cut off barrier, installed along with independent leachate and storm systems.

Maintenance of the area included the surveillance of existing methane gas collection systems.
