  • EXTENSIVE ECOLOGICAL AND VISUAL SURVEYS UNDERTAKEN

PROJECT OUTLINE

Maesgwyn solar farm is located 1.5kms to the northeast of Glynneath in Neath Port Talbot County Borough and within TAN 8 strategic search area E (SSA E). The site adjoins the existing Maesgwyn Windfarm and later extension and was previously grazed rotationally by sheep. It has no public access, no public rights of ways crossings and is located some distance from the A4109, making it well suited for solar development.

PROJECT DELIVERY

As part of our development work we undertook ecological appraisal, flood consequence assessment, geotechnical surveys and a landscape and visual impact assessment. We secure planning consent in 2014 for a 3.72MW installed capacity solar farm with 3.0MW export capacity.

To install the solar farm, existing private access roads were used and some track widening and additional stone compacted tracks constructed. Additional work included the cabling to link the arrays via six inverter cabins to a local substation. The farm comprises 30,000 panels, split over three areas on 450 panel mounting arrays.
